Introduction
Follow the adventures of Miss Flutterby as she teaches children important safety lessons. Miss Flutterby is a wonderfully whimsical, magical butterfly who lives in the playground next to the school. She can no longer fly very well because one day the playground bullies picked her up by her beautiful wings and smudged her magic dust. Now Miss Flutterby can only flutter around and fly a little crookedly. In fact, she flies so crookedly that she bumps into things. She is hopelessly clumsy, but oh so loveable and very smart! She is so smart that she has an important lesson to teach for practically every situation children find themselves in! You are going to love learning through her wonderful adventures.
The children adore Miss Flutterby and play games with her to make her happy. Hide-and-go-seek and tag are always favorites! One day Zachary found an abandoned doll house for Miss Flutterby to live in because she can no longer reach the trees that she loves so much. (Butterflies do not sleep but they use sunshine for energy and need a safe place to rest when there is no sun.) The children especially love story time with Miss Flutterby. They go to the secret, magic garden where one day during story time the flowers became magical, smiled down at Miss Flutterby and began to grow and grow and grow! Then suddenly Miss Flutterby herself started getting bigger and bigger too! And so began the wondrous adventures of Miss Flutterby.
All of the children agree that the playground, and especially the magic garden, is their favorite place to be. But, one day, something bad happens at the playground. A stranger comes and takes away one of the children. The child is just gone! No one sees or hears anything.
Miss Flutterby is very lonely because the children have stopped coming to the playground. All day long the playground remains empty. She is also worried about the safety of the children who make her so happy. Then Miss Flutterby has an idea! Children need to be able to make a loud, unique noise that signals when they need adult help.
Join Miss Flutterby as she searches for just the right thing for the children to use to make noise. Not just any noise, you see, but a special noise. A sound that any child can make and a sound everyone can hear. This must be a special noise that will let everyone know when a child is in trouble and needs adult help.

In today’s world, although it is no longer advisable to teach “stranger danger,” it is evident that there is a desperate need to teach our children to be aware of dangerous situations that may arise and how to react appropriately. With just a little “Training” children can feel safer, more confident and able to react quickly.

The rules and lessons presented were developed with the guidance of law enforcement professionals; research of on-line advice including the F.B.I. child abduction website and various child advocacy websites; and conversations with young children. Miss Flutterby presents a set of easy, helpful rules with lessons for parents to practice with their children.
